From the Executive Director

McCrary_Laura_webWelcome to the first edition of the monthly, KHIN News. I am Laura McCrary, the Executive Director of the Kansas Health Information Network. This publication will keep you informed about the latest developments surrounding KHIN, a provider-led, Kansas non-profit that will facilitate the sharing of health information across health care organizations. KHIN’s founding partners include the Kansas Medical Society, the Kansas Hospital Association and the two health information exchange organizations from Kansas’ large metropolitan areas: ehealthAlign in Kansas City and the Wichita Health Information Exchange (WHIE).

Our website is under construction but should be fully implemented within a few weeks. Over time, you'll find it is a good resource for basic information about this unique, provider-led effort. But, as you have questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.

ICA selected to provide technology for emerging HIE

The Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) recently signed a contract with Informatics Corporation of America (ICA) to provide the core technology services necessary to provide health information exchange to health care providers in Kansas and western Missouri. ICA was selected through a vigorous, nationwide RFP process that included on-site vendor demonstrations, visits to communities implementing the ICA technology and visits by providers who currently utilize ICA technology.

KHIN committed to working with communities

In Kansas and western Missouri, two community health information exchanges are already functioning and beginning to provide services to their respective communities. These include eHealthAlign in Kansas City and the Wichita Health Information Exchange (WHIE).

KHIN identifies service model

The Kansas Health Information Network (KHIN) is a provider-led health information exchange driven by the energy and support of the health care community. There are a number of important organizations and entities who, along with KHIN, will be working together to help ensure that providers in Kansas have access to a fully-functioning, provider-led health information exchange.
