KHIN hit a significant milestone in early August 2013. Kansas health care providers can now access critical health information on over one million Kansas patients. This means that over 1/3 of all Kansas residents have a portion of their health information available in KHIN.
KHIN members in Kansas City are working with the Mid-America Regional Council's (MARC), Regional Health Care Initiative and area health care foundations that include the Reach Healthcare Foundation, the Wyandotte Health Foundation, and the Hall Family Foundation in conjunction with BluePrint Healthcare IT to implement a first in the nation model using KHIN's HIE platform to improve care for vulnerable patients in Kansas City.
KHIN HealthHOME is our new patient personal health record. You can visit the beta site by clicking here. Feel free to create your own personal health record so you can see how the new KHIN HealthHOME will work for your patients, family and friends. Please note we are still working on it so if you notice some glitches we will have them fixed by our formal launch in October 2013.
KHIN HealthHOME is provided for free to all Kansas consumers. If you are a KHIN member you may be able to use KHIN HealthHOME to meet your MU2 Patient Engagement requirements or you can use it to improve communication with your patients. There is no additional fee.

KHIN released an RFP on September 9, 2013 for a Complete Imaging Solution to allow medical images to be available in KHIN. This summer KHIN established a small working committee to guide the development of the RFP and the products that will be requested. The workgroup members addressed the following key issues:
KHIN is committed to providing the highest level of health information exchange certification and protection to its members. KHIN uses DIRECT for the secure exchange of health information. DIRECT ensures a secure and safe method for providers to electronically share information with other providers and for patients to securely communicate important information to their providers.
In July 2013 KHIN became a DirectTrust member. DirectTrust members undergo a rigorous testing process to ensure their technology infrastructure meets federal standards. DirectTrust is a national, non-profit organization with the goal of establishing and maintaining a national Security and Trust Framework in support of Direct exchange. Members of DirectTrust include over 75 representatives from Health Internet Service Providers (HISPs), Health Information Exchanges (HIEs), Certificate Authorities (CAs), consultants, state agencies, and EHR vendors, as well as health care providers and provider organizations who are their purchasers and subscribers.
